Good to Know that Some Things Never Change
It will be interesting to see if this is a chant on every talk show for the next 5 years like Haliburton was. I bet not. And this looks worse than anything the Bush Administration did about war zone contracts. There are very few companies that provide logistics and support in the Persian Gulf area so you are likely to get Haliburton for some of the work no matter what. This one looks pretty bad.
Obama Administration Steers Lucrative No-Bid Contract for Afghan Work to Dem Donor
- FOXNews.com
The Obama administration this month awarded a $25 million federal contract for work in Afghanistan to a company owned by a prominent Democratic campaign contributor without entertaining competitive bids, Fox News has learned.
Despite President Obama's long history of criticizing the Bush administration for "sweetheart deals" with favored contractors, the Obama administration this month awarded a $25 million federal contract for work in Afghanistan to a company owned by a Democratic campaign contributor without entertaining competitive bids, Fox News has learned.
The contract, awarded on Jan. 4 to Checchi & Company Consulting, Inc., a Washington-based firm owned by economist and Democratic donor Vincent V. Checchi, will pay the firm $24,673,427 to provide "rule of law stabilization services" in war-torn Afghanistan.
Here is the shady part:
The legality of the arrangement as a "sole source," or no-bid, contract was made possible by virtue of a waiver signed by the USAID administrator. "They cancelled the open bid on this when they came to power earlier this year," a source familiar with the federal contracting process told Fox News.
"That's kind of weird," said another source, who has worked on "rule of law" issues in both Afghanistan and Iraq, about the no-bid contract to Checchi & Company. "There's lots of companies and non-governmental organizations that do this sort of work."

You consider that 'good' to know??? Tit for tat doesn't give me any comfort nor does knowing if the Republicans get back in, they'll do the same thing. Something is rotten in denmark and it's in both parties!
OK point taken, Rain. I meant it as sarcasm, because the Big O told us this was going to be the most open and ethical administration in the history of the United States. I will call out shady behavior by either party.
I feel like once you start with corruption, each side seems to feel it's the way to go. What we have to do now is find a viable third party as I have zero hope for either Democrats or Republicans. I am thoroughly disgusted. Obama is likely to end up a one term president and I just hope the Republicans pick more wisely this time. Although my hope for that is limited given how they are operating right now :(
they are more open though with like where money is going. http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/assets/memoranda_2010/m10-06.pdf But given the standards they had before them for being more open, that's not saying much.
ingineer . . . Does anyone have an anti-corruption pill for American politicians?
They don't!
Bet it's Bushe's fault.
Bumps Stump

It may not be corrupt (as in illegal) to give no-bid contracts in war zones, but it seemed wrong before and seems wrong now. It's not Bush's fault for what Obama chooses to do. It doesn't help Americans when we don't know that we got the best job done for the best price. The whole election process is part of the problem where somebody can give a lot of money to get favors. The Supreme Court just insured more of that... freedom of speech, dontcha know.
And ingineer, I want to add that I appreciate how you post things like this. You aren't reacting emotionally or going overboard with accusations. You are calling it for what it is and if there is an explanation for it (which seems unlikely to me) that can be dealt with also. Obama said he'd do things differently and when it appears he has not, he needs to be held accountable!
